REAL ESTATE 101: HOUSE STYLE SERIES
Our Real Estate 101: House Style Series covers a variety of architectural styles that can be found in the Chicagoland area, including Tudors, Cape Cods, Craftsman-style homes, and more.

THE TUDOR

Inspired by medieval English homes, the Tudor architectural style is one of the most easily recognizable due to its decorative half-timbering, the wood framing on the exterior of the home. A typical Tudor features a steeply pitched roof with multiple gables and an asymmetric, two-toned exterior, usually incorporating decorative wood with brick and/or stone.

EXAMPLE

1030 Woodbine, Oak Park

LW Reedy's listing at 1030 Woodbine in Oak Park features a Tudor's characteristic two-toned brick exterior with decorative wood timbering and the steeply pitched, gabled roof. The bay window on the first floor and decorative window extending above the decorative wood just below the roof are also common Tudor traits.

Other Tudor varities include the French Tudor, which features a more churchlike, gothic exterior, and the Elizabethan Tudor, which tends to incorporate more windows, gables, and decorative detailing.
