Spring is in the air! It's time to clean up the yard, the garage, the basement, the closet ... well ... maybe it is not possible to clean up everything all at once, but spring is a great time to tackle a room or area of your home and get rid of items you no longer use.

Disposing of items that cannot go into your regular trash can be difficult. Fortunately, the City of Elmhurst offers an annual spring garbage pick up in April, just in time to collect your unwanted items. If you are an Elmhurst resident, your spring clean-up pick-up date varies depending on your typical garbage collection date:

Typical Collection DaySpring Clean-Up Collection Date
WednesdaySaturday, April 13
ThursdaySaturday, April 20
FridaySaturday, April 27

* Please check the city's website to confirm your collection date.

Acceptable items include furniture, appliances, and bulk items. Some items, such as paint and carpet, must be properly prepared for disposal. Check the city's website for details, a full list of accepted items, and a list of items that will be refused, such as ammunition, electronic devices, and car batteries.

For information about Elmhurst's garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection services, including recyclable items, yard sticker vendors, and large-item pick-up arrangements, visit Elmhurst's public works webpage.

Before sending anything off to the garbage dump on your spring clean-up collection day, consider recycling options. Some items, including electronics, textiles, and clothing, can be dropped off at Elmhurst's Electronics & Textile/Clothing Recycling Event on April 27, 8 am - 12 pm at the Public Works Facility at 985 S Riverside Drive in Elmhurst.

Whether you tackle the yard, garage, basement, or another spring cleaning project, clearing out the clutter is a great way to take care of your home this spring.
